Create your own joyful moment

Over the past year leading up to my wedding, I engaged in a bunch of (fun) wedding tasks, ranging from dress shopping to invitation choosing to hair and makeup trials. During the final month, I think I had at least 2-3 appointments each week! Things were high energy over here!

I have to say that as I got closer and closer to my wedding, it became easier and faster to tap into positive emotions. All I had to do was envision moments of that day to come, and I felt so excited and grateful almost instantly. I’ve been trying to stay in that space of feeling those positive emotions in my body, because I know 1) it’s good for my mental and physical health and 2) it attracts more positivity into my life.

Thinking about settling into this space of joy, even just for a few moments each day, makes me think of part of a podcast containing a talk from Abraham-Hicks (super woo woo, look them up if you wanna get weird). The message from this podcast was that to raise our vibrational frequency (aka “feel great”), we can think about something - ANYTHING - that makes us happy. The important piece of this message for me was that it can be something completely unrelated to our current situation or topic of thought. If we’re having a bad day at work, we don’t necessarily need to think about the positive aspects of work, but instead we can think about snuggling with our dog.

Okay so thinking about something that makes us happy to help us feel, well, happy, seems like common sense right? But is it? I feel like when I’m down about one particular thing, I try to make myself reframe that one thing (which sometimes works). But I love this idea that we can instead just think about something completely different that always makes us feel good.

I’m not saying you need to shift your focus away from a negative feeling whenever one arises. In fact I think resisting feeling all the feels when they come can have a disastrous effect on our mental health. But I’m talking about when you get to that point after you’ve felt the feels, or maybe when you’re just in a funk, and want to raise that personal vibe, go this route. We don’t need permission to think about something random that makes us feel joyful, appreciative, or gleeful! We can think about any number of those things that make us feel great any time! And we can enjoy, maybe even just for a few moments, that great feeling, way down in our bones, pulsing through our soul. Create an instance of joy, and drink it in.

Isn’t that what was always so great about daydreaming as a kid?

Go sink into that goodness…
